FBI Director Kash Patel has stepped up to send a clear message to the “fake news” peddlers over at CNN, who seem to have mistaken their fantasy for reality again. Their latest whopper suggests that Patel has plans to significantly downsize the ranks of the U.S. Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF), a crucial player in the government’s approach to domestic security. Apparently, CNN’s crystal ball for predicting FBI moves was out of order when they claimed he was ready to cut a third of the ATF’s workforce.
Patel, the fiery former national security advisor under President Trump, is not one to let misinformation fester without a fight. In a recent report, CNN alleged that he was preparing to shuffle around 1,000 agents from the ATF over to the FBI, which they absurdly dubbed a “major cutback.” Citing this so-called “report,” CNN ventured that Patel’s grand redesign of the ATF was being watered down due to backlash from Republican allies. In other words, they’re trying to spin a tale of infighting and capitulation where there might just be a lot of hot air.
Responding with gusto, Patel fired off a memo directly addressing the ATF personnel, smacking down CNN’s fabrications with the boldness one would expect from a leader committed to integrity. He characterized the network’s narrative as “entirely false” and reassured everyone that they wouldn’t be holding any operational power over the ATF—despite their best efforts to insert themselves into critical conversations about public safety. No, Patel insisted, the dedicated agents of the ATF have their backs covered against the hasty and misleading claims of a media desperate for clicks and views.

Patel’s reputation as a no-nonsense operator precedes him. After being confirmed last month, he made it crystal clear that he intends to “wage war” on the entrenched bureaucracy typical of the so-called deep state, which has been weaponized by those at the helm of the current administration. There’s no disguising the fact that Patel is staunchly aligned with Trump’s mission to eliminate the insidious influences that threaten constitutional rights. It seems clear that under his leadership, things will be shaken up in a way that makes the mainstream media squirm.
During his swearing-in ceremony, Patel made a spectacle of holding the mainstream media accountable, even pointing to himself as the target of their false narratives. He invited more of their slander to come his way and, with characteristic bravado, asserted that it was the hardworking agents of the FBI who deserve respect—not the sensationalist press. When the applause erupted from his supporters in the room, it was a clear testament to his views. It’s becoming quite evident that under Patel’s watch, the ATF will not only carry out its mission but will do so unfettered by the prying eyes of “fake news.”
