The recent shooting at a Christian school in Nashville has resulted in a tragic situation for all involved. However, the left has seized this opportunity to promote their own agenda and propagate untrue facts. Both former President Barack Obama and actor Billy Porter have incorrectly asserted that "guns are the primary cause of death for children" in response to the shooting. This assertion has been widely repeated by left-leaning individuals and non-fact-checking moderates throughout 2022, after a CDC study declared that guns were the leading cause of death for children. Even Fox News published a story titled "Guns now the leading cause of death for US children, per CDC" with the same claim.

After a more detailed examination, it is evident that the assertion is inaccurate. Breitbart News reports that the only way to support this argument is to include 18 and 19-year-olds in the category of children. If one modifies the search criteria on the CDC website to include only those aged 0-17, the situation is completely reversed. In 2020, the number of firearm-related deaths for children aged 0-17 was 2,281, while the number of motor vehicle deaths for the same age group was 2,503. It is also essential to consider that the incorrect parameters – including 18 and 19-year-olds in the children's category to increase the count of gun deaths – actually goes against the left's argument. This is because CDC data shows that individuals between the ages of 0-19 are 27 times more likely to die from accidental car accidents than from accidental gun deaths.
The left is exploiting inaccurate information to advance their anti-gun ideology and vilify conservatives, which is evident. The reality is that firearms are not the primary cause of death among children, and it is morally unacceptable for liberals to exploit this tragedy for their political gain. It is also unacceptable for them to disseminate fear and false information. Conservatives must take a stand and resist this type of misinformation and the left's attempt to exploit tragedies to advance their agenda. We must also bear in mind that it is our duty to safeguard our children, which necessitates being well-informed about the facts and not being swayed by misleading information.
