The political competition between former President Donald Trump and Governor Ron DeSantis is on the rise as the Republican primary continues to heat up. According to The Washington Times, recent polling data indicates that the party would fare better if both men joined forces and ran on a unity ticket. The survey was conducted by Rasmussen Reports and Political Media Inc., and it discovered that a Trump-DeSantis coalition would easily defeat President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. Conducted among 1,050 probable voters via telephone and online surveys between April 27 and May 2 found that 51% would vote for a Trump-DeSantis ticket, compared to 43% for the Biden-Harris ticket.

Larry Ward, the head of Political Media Inc., believes that if the former president and Florida governor unite, it will create a path for Republicans to triumph in the popular vote for the first time in two decades. Trump and DeSantis are expected to win with women, independents, Hispanics, college graduates, and African Americans. However, according to one unnamed Republican operative, Trump is unlikely to give the VP slot to someone he considers disloyal, making a joint ticket seen as highly improbable.
As both Trump and DeSantis are residents of Florida, there could be a conflict with the 12th Amendment of the Constitution, which states that “The Electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves.” In addition to Trump and DeSantis, likely voters were also asked how they would react to a ticket featuring Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene and former Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake.
A Trump-Lake ticket would beat President Biden and Vice President Harris by 5%, whereas Trump-Greene would lose by 4%. DeSantis has yet to announce any presidential ambitions in 2024, but the poll found that he trails behind Trump by 8% among Republican primary voters. Interestingly, a recent poll released by The Washington Post-ABC News demonstrated that both Trump and DeSantis beat Biden in a head-to-head competition. Moreover, the research discovered that only one-third of Americans trust Biden’s mental competency to serve out another term in the White House.
In conclusion, the recent polling data shows that a Trump-DeSantis ticket would be the perfect combination for Republicans to win in 2024, and it is time for the party to come together and unite instead of competing against each other.
