Democratic Senator Joe Manchin from West Virginia has once again taken a stand against President Joe Biden’s “extreme” policies. This time, Senator Manchin spoke out against newly proposed vehicle emission standards by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), which he described as “dangerous” and a deceptive “Trojan horse.” Senator Manchin emphasized that these proposed standards are a national security threat and will work to the benefit of the Chinese communist regime. As a moderate Democrat, Senator Manchin understands the importance of balance and is calling out the Biden administration’s overreach.
The EPA recently proposed new standards to reduce harmful air pollutant emissions from light-duty and medium-duty vehicles starting with model year 2027. These new standards would be even more stringent than the current ones for model years 2023 through 2026. The EPA also proposed more stringent standards to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from heavy-duty vehicles starting in model year 2027. These new proposed standards would apply to delivery trucks, refuse haulers, public utility trucks, transit, shuttle, school buses, etc. Senator Manchin is concerned about the impact this will have on American energy security and national security.
The Biden administration claims that these new standards will help the environment by reducing CO2 emissions and saving the average vehicle owner up to $12,000 in reduced fuel and maintenance costs over the vehicle’s lifetime. However, Senator Manchin sees through the Biden administration’s false claims and believes that the EPA is manipulating the market to boost electric vehicles, which will only strengthen China’s control over minerals and technologies. Furthermore, he believes that this administration’s policies will only result in a more energy-secure and powerful China.
Senator Manchin has joined forces with Senator John Barrasso (R-WY) and other Republicans on a Congressional Review Act resolution to overturn these dangerous EPA regulations. Senator Manchin believes that making progress on climate change should not come at the expense of our national and energy security. It’s refreshing to see a Democrat like Senator Manchin stand up for American values and security, instead of blindly following the extremist policies of the Biden administration.
