In a shocking move, over two dozen Democrats in the state of Colorado voted against legislation that would make it a felony for anyone to indecently expose themselves to children. This proposed legislation was introduced by Democratic Representatives Dafna Michaelson Jenet and Shannon Bird in the state House, and Democrat Sen. Rachel Zenzinger and Republican Sen. Jim Smallwood led the Senate version of the measure.

Despite the proposed bill having nothing to do with transgender people, Democratic Representative Leslie Herod argued that it could lead to the banning of drag shows and be used to “target individuals who use the restroom of the sex that they identify with”. She added that “these types of laws have been used to ban drag shows” and “charge them with felony charges”. Herod’s claims that the transgender community would “face attacks” to support her being opposed to the legislation is not only bizarre but totally false.

This proposed legislation was created to protect children from indecent exposure, but instead of supporting it, Democrats voted against it. This is an outrageous example of liberal politicians prioritizing their own agenda over the safety of children. It is clear that Democrats are more concerned with protecting drag shows than protecting children from indecent exposure.
The bill eventually passed, but with amendments to not apply the law if the exposure is in a public place with other adults present. This amendment is concerning as it implies that Democrats are more concerned with protecting adults than protecting children. It is also concerning that Democrats are willing to allow adults to indecently expose themselves to children in public places as long as other adults are present.
The Democratic opposition to this bill is an absolute disgrace and shows how out of touch they are with the needs of the people they are supposed to represent. It is a sad reality that Democrats are willing to put their own agenda ahead of the safety and well-being of children. It is time for Democrats to start putting children first and stop putting their own agenda ahead of what is best for the people they are supposed to represent.
