Biden Seeks to Sidestep Governors in National Guard Control

In another troubling move by the Biden Administration, the Defense Department recently asked Congress to change a law that gives governors the final say on moving National Guard units. This change would allow the Defense Department to transfer units to the Space Force without governors’ approval. Perhaps they’re getting ready for aliens, who knows?

Governor Greg Abbott of Texas, a Republican who has been vocal about border security, pushed back against this proposal. He pointed out that governors have always had a say in National Guard matters and this change would break that tradition. Governor Abbott argued that this move by the Defense Department is a power grab that could set a dangerous precedent.

Interestingly, many governors from both sides of the aisle, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, have expressed their strong opposition to this change. They believe it goes against years of tradition and could harm our national security and military readiness. Governor Abbott and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis initially did not sign the letter but have since made their concerns known.

It’s worth noting that several Republican governors have sent National Guard soldiers to the border to deal with the crisis there. Could the Biden Administration be trying to prevent these soldiers from helping by moving them to the Space Force? It’s a valid question to ask.

This move by the Biden Administration is just another example of their overreach and desire for centralized power. It’s important to remember the role of states in our federal system and not let the federal government take away more authority from local leaders. Joe Biden’s actions are concerning and show a potential disregard for the balance of powers in our government.
