Man Gets 30 Years for Intentionally Spreading HIV

An Idaho prosecutor's office press release stated that Alexander Louie, 34, was sentenced to 30 years in jail for intentionally infecting other males with HIV. Louie will not be eligible to apply for parole until he has served at least 16 years in prison, according to the prosecutor's office. According to the press announcement, Louie admitted to having sex with between thirty and fifty different men and boys, including a sixteen-year-old, and that he intended them to contract the deadly illness. Louie lied to those he had sex with about having HIV and neglected to take his medication.

During the sentencing process, Ada County District Judge Derrick O'Neil classified Louie as a predator. The Ada County Prosecutor said in the press release that Louie's activities had a negative impact on a large number of people. According to the Idaho Statesman article, Louie struck a plea agreement with the prosecution and admitted guilt to multiple felonies in order to get out of further charges.

According to the CDC, HIV is a condition that impairs the body's defenses and, if left untreated, can progress to AIDS. According to the CDC, HIV cannot be cured, and the average life expectancy of an AIDS patient is three years without appropriate care. Louie preyed on people and endangered their lives with his destructive and self-centered actions. Justice had to be done in order to shield the neighborhood from such predatory and deadly behavior.
